The San Francisco 49ers have confirmed that Brandon Jacobs has been released following a period suspended from the team.

The San Francisco 49ers have waived Brandon Jacobs following his suspension from the team.

The running back joined the NFC West champions from the New York Giants in the off-season, but had just five carries throughout the year.

The 30-year-old was suspended by the 49ers after complaining on Twitter about his lack of playing time.

Jacobs is unable to join another team until after the conclusion of the playoffs.
