Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell is expected to be banned for the first two games of next season, according to reports.
Bell was arrested on marijuana charges last August, and he has now been given a 15-month probation order in a first offender's programme, while he will have his driving licence suspended for 60 days.
The NFL's new substance abuse policy says that the league the right to suspend Bell for two games, and ESPN has said that it intends to do so.
The 22-year-old was the league's second leading rusher last season with 1,361 yards, while he scored eight touchdowns.
