New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall has insisted that Geno Smith "did nothing wrong" after the quarterback had his jaw broken by former teammate Ikemefuna Enemkpali.
The incident occurred last week when Enemkpali punched Smith in the Jets' locker room, breaking his jaw, following a dispute over $600 (£385) owed to the linebacker.
Marshall has defended the 24-year-old after he was criticised by teammate Darrelle Revis for the altercation, which led to the release of Enemkpali.
"I was sitting right there and I would say this without going into too many details because we've already moved past it: Geno Smith did nothing wrong," Marshall told FOX Sports.
"He did nothing wrong. And that's all I'm going to say about that because we have to move forward and I don't want to be a distraction to our team, but Geno Smith did everything the right way."
Enemkpali was signed by the Buffalo Bills after being cut by the Jets.
