Report: Michael Vick, New York Jets opt against new contract

The New York Jets will not re-sign quarterback Michael Vick to cover for the injured Geno Smith, according to reports.

Quarterback Michael Vick will not return to the New York Jets this season to stand in for the injured Geno Smith.

Smith could miss the first 10 weeks of the season after sustaining a broken jaw from a punch by teammate Ikemefuna Enemkpali, and Vick has been linked with a short-term deal to replace him.

However, NFL Media claims that the 35-year-old held discussions with the Jets, but both decided not to pursue a deal.

Vick started three games for the Jets in 2014, throwing three touchdowns.
