Report: New York Giants, Eli Manning make progress in contract talks

A report suggests that the New York Giants and Eli Manning could strike a deal over the long-term future of the quarterback by the start of the season.

The New York Giants and quarterback Eli Manning have made progress in their talks over a long-term deal, according to a report.

The 34-year-old is entering the final year of his contract with the NFC East side, and the two parties struggled to come to terms over the summer, with Manning revealing that he was content to play out the season without a new deal.

However, NFL Network reports that the two-time Super Bowl champion and the Giants have made significant progress in their discussions and could have a deal wrapped up before Sunday.

The Giants face the Dallas Cowboys in their season opener on Sunday.
