New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has been designated with the franchise tag by the club, ensuring his stay for the 2015 season.
The 26-year-old and the Giants had failed to come to a long-term agreement on a new contract since the end of the 2014 season, leaving the club in a bind with the free-agent market on the horizon.
As a result, the NFC East outfit have take the decision to place the tag on Pierre-Paul to keep him away from free agency and under contract for the 2015 campaign at the hefty price of $14.813m (£9.6m).
Pierre-Paul recorded 77 tackles, 12.5 sacks and three forced fumbles for the Giants last season.
