Jason Pierre-Paul taking things "day by day" with injury

Jason Pierre Paul is in danger of missing the first NFL game of his four-year career on Sunday, as he bids to overcome a shoulder problem.

New York Giants' Jason Pierre-Paul missed practice on Wednesday with a shoulder injury.

Pierre-Paul sustained the problem during Sunday's 24-20 victory over the Oakland Raiders, and his status for this weekend's clash with the Green Bay Packers is unknown at this stage.

He told Giants.com: "I'm just going day-by-day. Once it stops hurting me, I'll play. As of right now, I'm taking it day-by-day. I'm not practising Thursday and I don't know about the game either.

"I'm certainly back from my back injury, there's no question about that. Last Sunday, I think I had a great game. That was probably one of my best games in a while.

"I had one sack, I could have gotten more, but I got hurt. I'm taking it day-by-day right now and that's all I can do."

The fourth-year defensive end, who has never missed a game in his career, had back surgery in the off-season.

The Giants are 3-6 in the NFC East, with playoff hopes unlikely for the 2011 Super Bowl champions.
