Green Bay Packers star James Jones has revealed that his brief spell with the New York Giants helped him prepare for the new season.
Jones spent just one week in camp with the Giants before being cut from their roster, after which he joined the Packers.
The veteran receiver caught all four of his targets for 51 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Green Bay defeated the Chicago Bears on the opening weekend.
"I truly believe the Lord sent me to the Giants for a reason because it was not to make the team, it was to polish off all my skills," Jones told The MMQB.
"I was on my couch for a minute, and then I was able to go to the Giants, where the playbook is almost identical because Ben McAdoo was with the Packers for so long, and he took that offence over there. I was able to polish off all the rust, play in some games and able to get in football shape."
Jones left the Giants after notifying coach Tom Coughlin that he would not settle for a bit-part role in the offense.
