Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith has claimed that wins like yesterday's over the Dallas Cowboys will be key to them having a successful season.
The Chiefs moved to 2-0 for the season following their 17-16 victory last night, already matching their total number of wins from the entire 2012 campaign.
The Cowboys were on top for much of the match, but Smith believes that picking up wins when they are not necessarily at their best will be key come the end of the season.
"When you're trying to build something, you need to win games like this," Smith told The AP.
"These are the games you look at in November and December. You need these types of wins, not only the calibre of the win but the style of win.
"It's not always going to be pretty, but you have to find a way to bear down."
Smith, who is currently in his first season with the Chiefs having joined from San Francisco during the off-season, threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns during last night's match.
