Ryan Mallett has conceded that he was disappointed to miss out on being named the Houston Texans' starting quarterback.
Texans head coach Bill O'Brien announced that Brian Hoyer would be his starting signal-caller for the 2015 season due to his performances in training camp.
The 27-year-old has admitted that he was disheartened by the decision, but is adamant that he will keep working to oust Hoyer from the role.
Mallett told reporters: "Obviously I'm disappointed and I don't agree with it but I'll be ready. We played four quarterbacks last year. So, I'll do what I have to do to better the team.
"I don't know what else to do except work my ass off. I don't look at it as a setback. I thought I did enough to win the job."
Mallett threw for 400 yards and two touchdowns to two interceptions in the 2014 season.
