Ryan Broyles has sustained a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament, ending his 2012 NFL season.
The Detroit Lions wide receiver picked up the injury in the first quarter against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
Coach Jim Schwartz said: "[Recovering from an ACL injury is] something that [Broyles has] gone through already.
"Ryan's a real hard-working player. He did a great job with his rehab last time.
"It'll be a bump in the road for him, but it won't be something that he can't overcome."
The injury leaves the Lions short of wideouts, with Nate Burleson missing with a broken leg, and Titus Young out of favour for disciplinary reasons.
