Denver Broncos hire Gary Kubiak as head coach

The Denver Broncos confirm that they have hired Gary Kubiak as their head coach on a four-year deal following the departure of John Fox.

The Denver Broncos have announced that they have hired Gary Kubiak as their new head coach on a four-year deal.

Kubiak spent the 2014 season as offensive coordinator with the Baltimore Ravens after being fired by the Houston Texans at the end of the 2013 campaign following an eight-year tenure as the head coach of the club.

The 53-year-old replaces John Fox, who left the team following the Broncos' exit from the playoffs in the divisional round at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts.

General manager John Elway told the club's official website: "Gary Kubiak has established a track record of leadership, success and high character during his 30 seasons in the NFL.

"While there is no question he is a Bronco, what Gary has learned from his other opportunities around the league - especially in his eight seasons as a head coach - will tremendously benefit our organisation. Having coached on three Super Bowl champions and 11 playoff teams, Gary knows what it will take to deliver another World Championship to Broncos fans.

"Coach Kubiak is all about winning and doing things the right way, which are values that have always been most important to the Broncos and Owner Pat Bowlen. We are very excited to welcome Gary, and his wife, Rhonda, back to the Denver Broncos."

Kubiak spent 11 seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Broncos from 1995 to 2005, and was also a quarterback at the club from 1983 to 1991, serving as Elway's backup.
