A report suggests that the Buffalo Bills are not close to reaching a long-term deal with safety Jairus Byrd.

It has been reported that Jairus Byrd is not in talks with the Buffalo Bills over a long-term contract.

The AFC East side used their franchise tag to ensure that their starting free safety remains with the team for the 2013 NFL season.

ESPN reports that all is quiet between the two parties, with Byrd seeking a salary around $2m (£1.3m) more than what the team are offering.

The 26-year-old made 76 tackles and five interceptions for the Bills last season.
