Arizona Cardinals cut DC Jefferson after arrest

The Arizona Cardinals have released rookie tight end DC Jefferson just days after he was arrested and charged with DUI.

Jefferson failed to stop having hit another vehicle while driving on Friday night before finally being pulled over by police, who found that his blood alcohol content was almost twice the legal limit, according to a police report.

However, Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians insisted that the decision to release the 24-year-old had nothing to do with his arrest.

Jefferson was chosen in the seventh round of the 2013 Draft and was active in four of Arizona's eight matches so far this season without catching a pass.

The Cardinals have signed former New York Giants tight end Jake Ballard to fill Jefferson's vacant roster spot.
