Dan Evans handed five-week ban

Newport Gwent Dragons full-back Dan Evans is handed a five-week ban following a dangerous tackle that saw teammate Nic Cudd wrongly dismissed.

Newport Gwent Dragons full-back Dan Evans has been handed a five-week ban following a dangerous tackle against Newcastle Falcons.

Teammate Nic Cudd was sent off in the second half of Friday's LV= Cup defeat to the Falcons, but that ban has now been overturned and instead handed to Evans.

"We had a disciplinary meeting on Tuesday and Nic Cudd was exonerated but Dan Evans was banned," Dragons boss Lyn Jones told the WRU's offical website.

"It's a blow. You have a plan and it's not easy to deal with when one of your key players is taken out of the equation. But we have to deal with it and we have to move on."

The Dragons are back in action on Sunday when they face Edinburgh Rugby at Rodney Parade.
