Jonny Wilkinson to receive Hall of Fame honour

Jonny Wilkinson admits that he is "honoured" to have been announced as the latest inductee in the Rugby Players' Association Hall of Fame.

England World Cup winner Jonny Wilkinson is to be inducted into the Rugby Players' Association Hall of Fame, it has been announced.

The 35-year-old, whose heroics in 2003 helped the Red Rose lift the Webb Ellis Cup, will join the likes of Gareth Edwards, Martin Johnson, Michael Lynagh and Jason Robinson in the distinguished list of players to have received the honour.

"I'm truly honoured to be joining such an illustrious lineup," Wilkinson said.

Damian Hopley, the chief executive of the RPA, added: "Jonny is a global rugby icon who has shown incredible determination, drive and commitment throughout his illustrious career. He has enjoyed success at every level and has been a superb ambassador for the game of rugby."

Wilkinson called time on his playing career last summer, having helped Toulon successfully defend their European Cup title.
