Mohamed Salah earns votes in Egyptian presidential election

Scores of Egyptian voters call for Liverpool's Mohamed Salah to become the country's next president.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has reportedly earned a number of votes in the Egyptian presidential election.

Scores of voters spoiled their ballots by writing the former Roma ace's name and crossing out those of the official candidates, according to The Economist.

Salah is a hero in his home country, having netted 33 goals in 55 appearances for Egypt, including the last-minute penalty kick in their 2-1 win against Congo which fired them into the World Cup finals.

According to the report, there were more than one million spoiled ballot papers in the Egyptian election, and many of them bore Salah's name.

Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi won the election with a 92% share of the votes.
