Barcelona court closes Neymar transfer case

A case brought against Barcelona in relation to the alleged misappropriation of funds when pushing through Neymar's transfer from Santos is brought to a close.

Barcelona have revealed that proceedings brought against the club regarding the signing of Neymar from Santos in 2013 have now been closed.

The 24-year-old is still facing a two-year jail term and a fine of £8.5m if Spanish prosecutors get their wish, however, due to separate ongoing case.

Barcelona reached a settlement of around £4.7m earlier this year over the controversial transfer, but aired their "surprise and total disagreement" at the decision to take the case to trial.

Board members have now voted 14-2 in favour of the pact to absolve current president Josep Maria Bartomeu and ex-president Sandro Rosell of the alleged misappropriation of funds when pushing the transfer through.

"On Wednesday morning, at the headquarters of the Provincial Court of Barcelona, the legal representative of FC Barcelona ratified the writ of conclusions and approval in relation to the open proceedings concerning the signing of the player Neymar Jr," a club statement read.

"The ratification of the agreement was signed jointly along with the Public Prosecutor's Office and the State Attorney's Office."

The case relating to Neymar's transfer and the reported unpaid money to Brazilian investment company DIS is still ongoing.
