Christian Horner confirms Volkswagen interest in Red Bull?

Christian Horner admits that Volkswagen are interested in racing in Formula 1, but claims that talk of an impending buyout of Red Bull is "pure speculation".

Red Bull boss Christian Horner has hinted that Volkswagen are interested in a buyout of the Formula 1 team, but has dismissed talk of an imminent takeover as "pure speculation".

Former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan had claimed that a deal was nearing completion, which would see VW enter the sport and Red Bull remain as a sponsor, with Ferrari providing engines in the interim while the German car brand has time to develop competitive power units.

However, while Horner has admitted that Volkswagen are interested in moving into F1, he has suggested that recent reports have been "wide of the mark".

He is quoted by Motorsport as saying: "I think it is great that VW have been showing interest in F1, but it is all pure speculation at the moment.

"Even if they were to decide to commit to F1, you are looking at a minimum of two to three years before being able to produce a competitive engine."

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo finished second at last weekend's Singapore Grand Prix, behind Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.
