Officials for the Italian Grand Prix are optimistic about securing a new contract with Formula 1.

La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that Monza completed its critical circuit upgrades just in time, with the 2024 Italian GP slated for late August.

The historic track has seen a complete re-asphalting, significant pitlane enhancements, and updates to its surrounding infrastructure.

"The works are part of a larger modernisation project that the Autodromo will have to undergo to ensure it remains on the Formula 1 calendar," the respected Italian newspaper noted.

The current agreement with Formula 1 will conclude following the 2025 race. "The road to renewal," La Gazzetta dello Sport cautioned, "is not over yet."

Speaking from Monza on Monday, Geronimo La Russa - president of the Milan automobile club - expressed his confidence.

"The Monza GP is an icon of Italy in the world," he stated. "I am certain that it will continue to be a protagonist of the world championship even after 2025."

Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of the Italian automobile club (Aci), concurred: "We want this race track to be modern and not just for one week a year."

He highlighted that the contract for Imola, another Italian venue on the F1 calendar, is due to expire next year. "Are two grands prix in Italy still possible after 2026?" Damiani queried.

"The dream (of two Italian races) has already come true, let's hope now that it continues."
