Marussia's return to Formula 1 has been blocked after Force India voted against the team using last year's car to compete in the 2015 campaign.
The Oxfordshire-based outfit intended to return to the grid under a different name after announcing plans to come out of administration by February 19.
However, in a vote involving the other F1 teams, Force India rejected Marussia's request to use their old car as they will not have time to build a new one in time for the Australian Grand Prix next month.
Force India's deputy team principal Bob Fernley said in a statement: "Given the lack of information, uncertain guarantees, and the speculative nature of the application, the decision was taken that it is better to focus on ensuring the continued participation of the remaining independent teams."
Marussia ceased trading in October last year and missed the final three races of the season.
