Romain Grosjean says sorry for Will Stevens crash

Romain Grosjean apologises to Will Stevens after he drove into him at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has revealed that he has apologised to Marussia-Ferrari man Will Stevens after their collision in the Canadian Grand Prix.

The Frenchman pulled out to lap Stevens down the back straight, but he cut across the Brit's racing line too early and smacked into his front wing.

Grosjean, who was quickly handed a 10-place penalty for this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix, yesterday revealed that he apologised for the incident.

He told reporters: "I went to apologise because I messed up. It was all OK. I killed a big part of my race, but I broke his front wing as well. Even though they are fighting at the back, they are still trying to do their best so it wasn't very nice of me to turn into him.

"It was just a failure of concentration. When you lap a car, it's fairly easy to forget it. That corner is a tricky one and I was just focusing on the apex. I didn't even realise I was turning left.

"Then I saw the reply and thought 'oh, that was bad'. It's something you learn from and try not to do again."

Grosjean sits ninth in the drivers' standings.
