Bristol City go 13 points clear after dispatching struggling Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town succumb to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of table-topping Bristol City in Tuesday evening's League One clash at Huish Park.

Struggling Yeovil Town have succumbed to a heavy 3-0 defeat at the hands of table-topping Bristol City in this evening's League One clash at Huish Park.

The visitors had the first sniff of goal two minutes in as Luke Ayling pushed forward and let rip from the outside of his right foot, but his effort flew wide of the post.

Yeovil countered through Joel Grant, who played a cross towards Gozie Ugwu in the box just before the quarter-hour mark, but Frank Fielding was able to get his fists to the ball.

In the 16th minute, City came within a whisker of opening the scoring when Luke Freeman's cross to Aaron Wilbraham was laid off for Matt Smith to shoot, the effort being subsequently cleared off the line by a last-ditch tackle.

The Robins continued to push forward, with Glovers goalkeeper Scott Loach diving acrobatically to his right to save from a Marlon Pack free kick just after the half-hour mark.

City were unable to breach Yeovil's clean sheet come the half-time whistle, but things clicked for the visitors two minutes after the restart as Joe Bryan's low ball across the six-yard box was slid into an empty goal by Kieran Agard.

It took all of two additional minutes for City to double their lead, Freeman collecting Mark Little's pass before curling home past a diving Loach.

James Hayter was guilty of a glaring miss in the 52nd minute as he found himself at the back post with a Grant cross coming his way, but he succeeded only in heading wide.

City went from strength to strength and, midway through the second half, Freeman's delivery from the left was headed over by the unmarked Agard.

There was controversy in the 66th minute when Agard was brought down by a Byron Webster challenge in the area, but nothing was given.

It didn't matter much in the end because City scored a third five minutes from time, George Saville firing home from 25 yards after his first attempt was cleared back his way by Webster.

The result puts the Robins 13 points clear at the top of League One, while Yeovil continue to struggle at the foot of the table, four points from safety.
