Sergio Aguero had the first chance of the game, with the Argentine shifting the ball to his right before driving a low shot towards goal but Hugo Lloris was equal to the effort to push it wide.
Manchester City then took the lead after a counter-attack led by Yaya Toure, who found De Bruyne in space and the 24-year-old placed his shot in the far left corner past Lloris for his third in three games.
Tottenham had Lloris to thank again moments later after saving Raheem Sterling's goal-bound effort from outside the box, before Harry Kane had a chance after Nicolas Otamendi gave the ball away but the England international dragged his shot from distance wide.

Kane saw another strong effort from outside the box saved well by Willy Caballero before Lloris would be called upon again, this time to deny Aleksandar Kolarov.
However, Totttenham drew level just before the break as Son Heung-Min was denied from close range but the clearance fell to Dier, who fired home from close range.
