Jose Gaya hits out at media 'lies'

Valencia defender Jose Gaya insists that his intention was always to sign a new long-term deal with Los Che.

Valencia defender Jose Gaya has insisted that he was never interested in leaving Los Che.

The 19-year-old has had a breakthrough season at the Mestalla, with his form leading to a host of speculation.

However, such talk has now been dispelled after the left-back signed a new five-year deal with his current club at the weekend.

It had previously been claimed that the teenager had held talks with Real Madrid over a move to the Bernabeu, but the Spaniard has insisted that 'his intention was always to continue at Valencia'.

"It has been a process of maturity. What's good is that I have already gone through it at the age of 19. I have seen and I have heard so many lies. We decided, the club and my agents, not to speak. But everyone knew that my intention was to continue at Valencia," Gaya told AS.

"What's best was to be silent although at some times I would have liked to have talked. I heard that I signed for another team and that was a lie."

Gaya will now be contracted to Valencia until 2020.
