How Real Madrid could line up against Mallorca

Sports Mole looks at how an injury-hit Real Madrid could line up for Saturday's La Liga contest against newly-promoted Mallorca.

Real Madrid will be looking to keep hold of top spot in La Liga when they face newly-promoted Mallorca for the first time in seven years on Saturday evening.

Zinedine Zidane's unbeaten side currently sit two points clear of bitter rivals Barcelona, whom they were due to face next weekend before the first Clasico of the season was postponed following unrest in Catalonia.

However, Barca could knock Madrid off the summit in their lunchtime kickoff on Saturday, leaving Los Blancos knowing that victory will likely be needed if they are to maintain a points advantage over their greatest enemies.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the leaders could line up for the visit to Mallorca.

Zidane has a host of injury concerns to contend with ahead of this match, and the bulk of those come in midfield as Luka Modric looks set for an extended spell on the sidelines while Toni Kroos is also a doubt.

Federico Valverde's form has earned him a spot alongside Casemiro in recent weeks, but the third place is up for grabs and Isco could therefore be handed a rare starting chance - perhaps even in a more advanced position should Zidane alter his formation to account for his injury troubles.

James Rodriguez - another player who was heavily linked with a summer exit - also looks set to start with Lucas Vazquez and Gareth Bale doubtful too, the latter picking up an injury in the same match as Modric during the international break.

Zidane is unlikely to take any risks with his doubtful players ahead of Tuesday's Champions League match against Galatasaray, although his level of protection is not expected to stretch to in-form Karim Benzema and big summer signing Eden Hazard.

Marcelo is ready to return at left-back having rejoined his teammates in training, allowing Dani Carvajal to move back to right-back.

Thibaut Courtois could also return to goal having overcome his illness, although some reports in Spain have speculated that Alphonse Areola might keep his place after Courtois was taken off at half time in his last appearance.
