Real Madrid have slumped to their 10th La Liga defeat of the season after losing 1-0 to lowly Rayo Vallecano on Sunday night.

A first-half penalty from Adi Embarba proved to be the difference as Vallecano moved off the bottom of the standings.

Real struggled throughout the contest, and Zinedine Zidane's side are almost certain to finish the campaign in third position.

Hello and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of the match in La Liga between Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid. The visitors have little to play for, but Zinedine Zidane will want his players to deliver a professional performance at the bottom club in the division. The two teams are making their way out onto the pitch, so let's see who features in each starting lineup...

RAYO VALLECANO XI: Garcia; Tito, Ba, Galvez, Moreno; Agbo, Suarez; Embarba, Pozo, Bebe; Guerra

RAYO VALLECANO SUBSTITUTES: Dimitrievski, Advincula, Garcia, Imbula, Medran, Trejo, Velazquez

REAL MADRID XI: Courtois; Carvajal, Varane, Vallejo, Marcelo; Modric, Llorente, Kroos; Bale, Mariano, Ceballos

REAL MADRID SUBSTITUTES: Navas, Nacho, Casemiro, Diaz, Isco, Asensio, Vazquez

Vallecano get us underway!

Both teams are looking to play the ball about with pace during these early stages, but the defences are currently alert to the danger at either end.

SHOT!  The first shot on goal comes from Marcelo, who sees a powerful right-footed effort from 25 yards punched away by Garcia. That was some strike with his weaker foot.

Vallecano respond with a break down the left flank, but a threatening low cross from the byline goes all the way to the back post without finding an attacker for the home side.

SHOT!  This is developing into a really good match. Pozo receives the ball inside the area, and the Vallecano playmaker sees a low attempt well kept out by Courtois down to his left.

Vallecano are seemingly playing with a certain amount of freedom this evening. They probably recognise that they need a miracle in order to stay in the top flight, and it is allowing them to perform without pressure.

Not much has happened over the past few minutes, aside from an offside at either end. Nevertheless, both teams are still having joy when they go forward. I cannot see this one ending goalless.

Mariano has been lively for the visitors. The forward has not had too many opportunities this season, but he appears eager to impress Zidane before the end of the campaign.

CHANCE!  Big chance for Vallecano. Suarez does well in the build-up and it leads to Pozo being teed up inside the area. However, Courtois closes the gap before making a super stop at his near post.

Ceballos attempts to pick out the run of Mariano at the other end, but Garcia comes out quickly to claim the ball ahead of the attacker.

Bale is denied by Garcia inside the area, but VAR is set to come into operation with a potential foul having occurred in the box at the other end.

PENALTY!  The referee is called over to have a look at whether Vallejo has fouled Guerra when the pair are attempting to reach the ball inside the six-yard box, and he decides to award the spot kick!

GOAL!  Embarba makes no mistake from 12 yards, with Courtois diving to his left when the ball is fired near enough down the middle. Vallecano lead!

It is difficult to argue that the home side do not deserve their lead. Real have looked decent enough going forward, but Vallecano have been causing all kinds of problems when on the attack.

YELLOW CARD!  Modric goes into the book when the Croatian's hand goes into the face of Embarba when attempting to make a challenge. There is nothing in it whatsoever...

Real are beginning to cause problems when breaching the offside trap, but Vallecano are able to get the ball behind for a corner after Bale's delivery into the middle. Nothing comes from the resulting set piece.

Vallecano certainly haven't gone into their shell since taking the lead. The home side continue to press forward, despite leaving themselves open to the counter.

Real keep losing the ball in the middle of the park as well, which is not helping their efforts to get back on level terms. Vallecano are playing at a high intensity.

The visitors win a corner on the left flank, but nothing comes from Kroos's inswinger. Rayo attempt to break down the left, but fail to get past the halfway line.

DISALLOWED GOAL!  Mariano has the ball in the net after a lobbed finish inside the area, but the attacker was at least a yard offside.

CHANCE!  Carvajal gets forward down the right before cutting inside onto his left foot to cross for Ceballos. It's a sharp chance, however, and the midfielder directs a header just wide of the far post.

We are having a break in play while Bale receives some treatment. The Wales international appeared to land awkwardly when jumping for a high ball.

YELLOW CARD!  Suarez is cautioned for Vallecano having gone in late on Ceballos. Easy decision for the referee.

There will be three minutes of added-on time. Bale seems to have recovered from his earlier fitness issue.

There has still been no let up from Vallecano, who manage to earn a corner on the right-hand side. However, the resulting set piece goes straight into the hands of Courtois.

HALF TIME:  Rayo Vallecano 1-0 Real Madrid

The half-time whistle goes and Vallecano have managed to keep hold of their 1-0 lead until the break. Embarba's spot kick is proving to be the difference so far, and Madrid will have to improve if they are to gain anything from this contest.

A quick reminder of both benches...

RAYO VALLECANO SUBSTITUTES: Dimitrievski, Advincula, Garcia, Imbula, Medran, Trejo, Velazquez

REAL MADRID SUBSTITUTES: Navas, Nacho, Casemiro, Diaz, Isco, Asensio, Vazquez

KICKOFF:  Real get us back underway!

SHOT!  Better from Real and from Bale, who cuts inside from the right to get a shot away with his left foot. However, the Welshman's strike is straight at Garcia.

Rayo go down the other end and win a corner on the right, but the outswinger is comfortably cleared by the visitors' defence.

The home side are continuing to offer the bigger threat and on this occasion, Courtois has to be alert in order to prevent Embarba's cross from sneaking inside the near post.

Real then offered a threat at the other end, but Rayo launched a counter as soon as that move broke down. You really do have to be impressed by the home side.

SHOT!  Bebe loves a long-range shot and the Brazilian does not waste the opportunity to do just that here. The winger has time and space, but his strike from 25 yards is too close to Courtois.

Kroos is down receiving treatment after a clash of heads with Suarez, but Real are probably grateful for the stoppage. They are second-best to the bottom team in La Liga.

Kroos is down receiving treatment after a clash of heads with Suarez, but Real are probably grateful for the stoppage. They are second-best to the bottom team in La Liga.

Zidane looks to be readying at least one change, which comes as no surprise. You have to wonder how many of these players will be at the Bernabeu next season.

SUBSTITUTION! Diaz is being introduced for Ceballos, who has not enjoyed one of his best games in a Real shirt.

YELLOW CARD!  Mariano becomes the third player to go into the referee's notebook after clattering into Ba when challenging for a high ball.

Real have offered nothing going forward over the past 10 minutes. The visitors have been flat, but the same cannot be said of the home supporters who are loving holding a lead over one of the biggest clubs in the world.

SHOT!  Bebe tries yet another effort from distance. It's more ambitious than the last one, and the ball almost inevitably goes yards off target.

Diaz cuts inside from the right flank and manages to draw a foul out of Ba. This is in shooting range for Bale.

SHOT!  It's a decent enough effort from the Welshman who manages to hit the target, but the strike is comfortably tipped over the crossbar by Garcia.

Bebe picks up the ball on the left but guess what? He doesn't shoot! Unreal scenes. Instead, the former Manchester United man earns a throw-in by the corner flag.

There is a lot of space opening up in the middle of the pitch. Who does that suit at this stage? It remains to be seen.

SUBSTITUTION! Real make a second substitution as Isco comes on to replace Modric.

Less than 15 minutes to go now, and Rayo are edging nearer to one of the biggest results in their recent history. They still have work to do, however. Real will surely come on strong during the closing stages.

SUBSTITUTION! Vallecano make their first alteration as Medran is introduced as a replacement for Suarez.

SUBSTITUTION! Jemez doesn't waste any time in making another switch, with Alvaro Garcia coming on for Bebe.

YELLOW CARD!  Carvajal goes into the book for taking a free kick too quickly. It seems a harsh one, but the Real right-back has no complaints.

SUBSTITUTION! Real make their final alteration with Vazquez coming on for Mariano. These stoppages are not helping the visitors.

Vallecano are doing a really effective job in running down the clock. They don't look like creating more opportunities, but it is enough to take the game away from Real.

SUBSTITUTION! The final switch of the contest sees Trejo replace Pozo.

OFF THE LINE!  Almost a second for Vallecano! Guerra beat the offside trap and managed to get the ball past Courtois, but the veteran's strike from an acute angle was cleared off the line by Vallejo.

Diaz wins another free kick for Real on the edge of the area, and it is another opening for Real. Kroos looks the most likely to take it.

Nothing came from the resulting set piece. There will be six minutes of added-on time. Where has that come on?!

YELLOW CARD!  Agbo goes into the book for kicking out at Diaz after a foul had already been given. It was done to waste a little bit more time, rather than it being anything malicious.

The home supporters think this match is done and dusted, and you cannot blame them. Their side are managing to keep the ball in Real's half.

FULL TIME:  Rayo Vallecano 1-0 Real Madrid

The full-time whistle goes in Spain and Vallecano have easily held on to register a 1-0 win over Real Madrid. Embarba's first-half spot kick has proven to be the difference, and it has led to the home side moving off the bottom of the table.

That will be all from Sports Mole for this match. Thank you for joining us this evening, and we hope to see you again soon.
