Lee Wallace threatened on early on for the hosts, but his low effort from inside the box was saved by Graeme Smith.
Smith was called into action again moments later to save an attempt from Dean Shiels, before the keeper held onto a curling strike from James Tavernier.
Nicky Law then flashed a header just wide and Wallace saw a shot saved, as the Gers continued to press forward in search of an opener.
