Former boss Lawrie Sanchez in line for Northern Ireland return

Lawrie Sanchez is in contention to become the Northern Ireland manager for a second time.

Former Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez is in contention to get the job for a second time after being offered an interview for the vacant position.

Sanchez, who managed Northern Ireland between 2004 and 2007, is believed to be amongst the favourites for the job due to his previous successful spell in charge.

During Sanchez's reign, the Northern Irish side reached an all-time high of 27th in the FIFA world rankings, but he left the post to join Premier League side Fulham.

The position is currently vacant following the departure of Nigel Worthington, whose reign ended with Northern Ireland's unsuccsesful attempt to qualify for Euro 2012.

As well as Sanchez, Jim Magilton, Michael O'Neill, Iain Dowie, Dave Jones and Gerry Armstrong will all be interviewed with the possibility of becoming the new manager.
