Sports psychologist: 'Luis Suarez likely to bite again'

Dr Thomas Fawcett believes that Luis Suarez is likely to bite an opponent again after allegedly committing an offence for the third time in his career at the World Cup.

Sports psychologist Dr Thomas Fawcett believes that Luis Suarez is likely to bite an opponent again after he appeared to carry out the incident for the third time in his career at the World Cup in Brazil.

The Liverpool striker is under investigation by FIFA after he was accused of biting the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay's 1-0 victory on Tuesday.

Suarez was banned last year for biting the arm of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, and he was also punished for a similar incident during his time at Ajax.

Despite having professional help at Liverpool last season, Dr Fawcett believes that Suarez is likely to commit the offence again in the future.

"From a psychologist's perspective it was fairly predictable because of his past history," Dr Fawcett told BBC Radio 5 live. "I would suggest he is hardwired in this way.

"It's not something that's going to come out of his character with a few sessions with a psychologist. If it's happened before it'll happen again, despite all the help he's going to do it again."

Before the incident, rumours were rife claiming that Barcelona are considering a move for Suarez this summer.
