Cheick Tiote: "We did not deserve to lose"

Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote feels that his side did not deserve to leave Upton Park with nothing following their 1-0 defeat to West Ham United.

Newcastle United midfield Cheick Tiote believes that his side were unlucky not to take a point from their Premier League clash with West Ham United.

The Hammers ended the Magpies' run of five straight wins in the top flight as Aaron Cresswell fired them to a 1-0 victory at Upton Park, where the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Moussa Sissoko was sent off in the 76th minute.

"Everybody is disappointed because we lost but we are trying to take the positives we can from the game," Tiote told the club's official website.

"It wasn't our best game but we did not deserve to lose. A draw would have been fair and would have been good for both teams. They did not do anything special to win the game and the goal was lucky.

"Their player missed his shot and we didn't follow the other player, who went in to score. It was very frustrating because it was not a good goal. But this is football and we will take the good parts of our performance into Tuesday night at Burnley."

Newcastle are eighth in the Premier League table following their loss in London.
