Paul Cox: 'Consistency is the key'

Mansfield Town manager Paul Cox refuses to get carried away after watching his side record their second consecutive home win in League Two.

Mansfield Town manager Paul Cox has refused to get carried away after watching his side record their second consecutive home win on Saturday.

The Stags moved nine points clear of the League Two relegation zone by beating Fleetwood Town 1-0 at Field Mill, a result that came 14 days after they defeated Southend United 2-1.

Cox was pleased with Mansfield's overall display, but he was keen to stress that his team must now replicate that level of performance on a more regular basis, having seen Oxford United brush them aside at the Kassam Stadium last weekend.

He said: "We still need to be a bit more ruthless. But I can't have a go at them. I thought our work rate was impressive and the way we coped with the conditions on a windy, blustery day was excellent.

"We are not shouting from the rooftops as it is only one win and consistency is the key. A nine point gap from bottom is nothing as there are a massive amount of points to play for.

"They are all big games now and it doesn't matter who we play as long as we stick to our principles. When we apply ourselves we are a force for anyone in this league."

Prior to Mansfield's win over Fleetwood, the Stags had not kept a clean sheet in their last six games.
