Manchester United 'paid £9m to rip up Alexis Sanchez contract'

Alexis Sanchez was paid £9m by Manchester United to force through a move to Inter Milan, according to a report.

Manchester United reportedly handed Alexis Sanchez a £9m payoff as part of his free transfer to Inter Milan.

The Chile international completed his permanent move to San Siro on Thursday following a year on loan with the Serie A side.

According to the Daily Mail, United were so desperate to get rid of Sanchez that they waived any sort of transfer fee and agreed to pay the forward a huge cash sum.

Sanchez was in line for a further £50m from the Red Devils if he saw out the remainder of his £560,000-a-week deal, so the club took the decision to cut their losses and pay him off.

The same report suggests that, by freeing up a chunk of their wage bill, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side can now push ahead with plans to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Sanchez, who scored just five goals in 45 Premier League appearances for United, is rumoured to be earning £130,000 a week at Inter.
