Preview: Lincoln City vs. Wycombe Wanderers - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Lincoln City and Wycombe Wanderers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Lincoln City have the chance to clinch consecutive victories when they welcome Wycombe Wanderers to the LNER stadium for a League One contest on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Chairboys have faltered in recent weeks after picking up one point from their last three games.

After suffering consecutive defeats, Lincoln bounced back in midweek with a narrow 2-1 victory over Morecambe.

The Imps flew out the gates with both of their goals coming in the opening 20 minutes as Morgan Whittaker and Cohen Brammall put their names on the scoresheet, and though Toumani Diagouraga pulled one back in the second half, Lincoln held firm to claim all three points.

Ahead of the weekend's contest, Lincoln find themselves in 17th position with five points separating themselves and the relegation zone.

Michael Appleton's side will now focus on collecting just their fifth home win in League One this season, when they face Wycombe on Saturday.

Having won only twice in their last nine league matches at the LNER stadium, Lincoln will be fully aware that an improvement at home is needed if they are to move away from the danger zone.

Wycombe head into the weekend in sixth position, but with a number of teams closing in on the playoff places, they will be desperate to halt their current slide.

After suffering consecutive defeats, the Chairboys played out a goalless draw at home against Shrewsbury Town in midweek, but if they are to hang onto a playoff spot then Gareth Ainsworth's men require victories.

The visitors can take confidence from a number of promising away results, with Wycombe currently holding the fifth-best away record in League One.

In their previous 10 away league matches, the Chairboys have lost just twice, and they have managed to find the net in eight of those encounters.

Having already beaten Lincoln this season, Ainsworth will be hoping that his side can get their campaign back on track with a victory on Saturday.

Team News

After undergoing knee surgery, Lincoln City will have to cope without the services of Liam Bridcutt until April.

Joe Walsh made his return from injury to feature for the full 90 minutes against Morecambe, and he is set to partner Regan Poole in the centre of defence on Saturday.

Since signing in January, John Marquis has scored three goals in his four Lincoln appearances, and he will lead the line once again at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Sam Vokes will keep his place in the Wycombe lineup after returning to the starting XI on Tuesday.

Having missed the last three games due to injury, Josh Scowen is expected to return to the matchday squad, although he may have to settle for a place on the bench.

After joining the Chairboys on loan in January, Lewis Wing made his debut for the club against Shrewsbury and the 26-year-old will feature from the off once again on Saturday.

Lincoln City possible starting lineup:
Griffiths; Eyoma, Poole, Walsh, Bramall; McGrandles, Maguire, Sanders; Whittaker, Scully, Marquis

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Stockdale; Grimmer, Forino-Joseph, Jacobson; McCarthy, Wing, McCleary, Thompson, Obita; Hanlan, Vokes

SM words green background

We say: Lincoln City 2-1 Wycombe Wanderers

Lincoln City will be buoyed by their midweek victory, while Wycombe find themselves in a rut after a winless three game run, and we think that the rejuvenated Imps will edge out the Chairboys on Saturday.
