Thiago Motta: "We didn't finish them off"

Thiago Motta says that Italy missed a great opportunity to beat Croatia in Poznan.

Thiago Motta has revealed his frustration at Italy's 1-1 draw with Croatia.

The result in Poznan leaves Group C wide open, with Spain playing the Republic of Ireland in Gdansk in the day's second game.

Motta believes that the Azzurri should have buried their opponents after dominating the first half, but admitted that Croatia deserved a point.

"It's true we wasted a great chance today, as we put Croatia under pressure and didn't finish off the match," said Motta. "At the end of the day a draw is fair and we have to focus on the next match."

Cesare Prandelli's men must beat Ireland in their final game to have any chance of qualifying from the group stages, while also hoping that Spain defeat Croatia.

It is a similar situation to that of Euro 2004 when Sweden and Denmark drew 2-2, which saw both teams advance to the quarter-finals at Italy's expense.

However, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder dismissed any talk of a possible deal between Croatia and Spain.

"I'm sure Spain will try to beat Croatia whatever happens. We are professionals and I doubt there would be an agreement at the Euros."

The final group games take place on Monday.
