Jose Mourinho surprised by Norwich City tactics

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says that he is surprised over Norwich's lack of urgency during the stalemate at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has admitted that he was surprised by Norwich City's lack of urgency during the stalemate at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

Three points for the Canaries would have seen Neil Adams's side move level on points with 17th-placed Sunderland in the race for survival at the bottom of the Premier League.

Indeed, with a point doing little for Norwich's relegation battle, Mourinho has questioned why Adams did not adopt a gung-ho approach to snatch the win.

He told BBC Sport: "It was quite a day. We had one team that needed three points to have a chance to survive - but didn't play to win and a team that needed a point to finish third and guarantee a Champions League group stage place that played to win.

"Norwich's gameplan surprised me. We were waiting for a crazy game, especially in the second half, where they would gamble everything, but it didn't happen. But we don't have a right to criticise."

The Black Cats can consign City to life in the Championship next season by beating West Bromwich Albion in midweek.
