Jose Mourinho to appeal fine handed to him by Football Association

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will appeal the £50,000 fine handed to him by the Football Association following comments he made after seeing his team lose to Southampton.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he will appeal the £50,000 fine handed to him after the comments he made in the aftermath of his side's 3-1 defeat to Southampton.

During a seven-minute outburst in an interview conducted by Sky Sports, Mourinho accused referees of being "afraid" to award decisions to his team after seeing the Blues denied a potential penalty against the Saints.

The Football Association responded by charging the Portuguese, before handing him a £50,000 fine and a one-match suspended stadium ban - a verdict described as an "absolute disgrace" by Mourinho.

However, Mourinho has indicated that he will challenge the punishment given to him, telling reporters at his pre-match press conference ahead of his team's fixture with Aston Villa that he 'must be honest with himself'.

West Bromwich Albion head coach Tony Pulis has described the fine handed to Mourinho as an "extraordinary amount of money".
