Gary Cahill admits that adjusting to Rafael Benitez's focus on defensive awareness and tactics in training has been a culture shock to Chelsea players.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has declared that Rafael Benitez is trying to make the Blues a more solid team aware of their positional responsibilities.

The Blues are currently in Japan preparing for tomorrow's Club World Cup opener against Mexican side Monterrey.

Cahill has admitted that training under Benitez has been tough but believes that the hard work will ultimately benefit the team.

He told The Mirror: "The manager has put his points across. It's been a tough few weeks for us to be aware of the way Rafa works and what he expects but that's coming together now.

"He definitely stresses the importance of everyone knowing their role, what what to do when we have the ball and when we don't have the ball. That means getting back into shape, being compact and making it difficult for the opposition to break you down.

"Everyone is aware of the attacking flair players we have in our team going forward. What's important is reacting when we lose possession, that we respond and get back into a shape. There's not so much space and gaps around. We look more solid now as a team and as a unit."

The Blues face two games in three days in Japan as they try to win the Club World Cup for the first time.
