Preview: Charlton Athletic vs. Barnsley

Sports Mole looks ahead to the Championship relegation battle on Tuesday night between Charlton Athletic and Barnsley.

Relegation-threatened clubs Charlton Athletic and Barnsley clash at The Valley in the Championship on Tuesday night.

Rock-bottom Barnsley will be six points adrift of safety if they suffer their third straight defeat in South London.

Charlton go into the game on an eight-game alternating win-loss streak and can pull four clear of the drop zone and up to 18th in the table with a win.

Both the Addicks and Tykes suffered defeat on Saturday, with Charlton easily beaten at Brighton, while Barnsley missed a late penalty to salvage a point at Bolton.

Jose Riga could start with the same XI that went down on the South coast, with Simon Church perhaps the most likely to earn a recall against Barnsley.

Danny Wilson will know the importance of Tuesday's game and might want to freshen up his starting lineup. Martin Cranie, Paddy McCourt and Nick Proschwitz could be promoted to the starting lineup.

The reverse fixture between these two was all the way back in August that finished 2-2 at Oakwell.
