Half-Time Report: Brentford lead Coventry City

Brentford secure a slender 2-1 half-time lead over Coventry City in what proved a dramatic opening 45 minutes at Griffin Park today.

Brentford have recorded a slender 2-1 half-time lead over Coventry City in what proved a dramatic opening 45 minutes of Championship football at Griffin Park today.

City drew first blood in the encounter after five minutes, with Callum Wilson on hand to tap home after David Button had saved Carl Baker's initial shot.

The Bees were given a route back into the contest shortly after slipping behind as Alan Judge was brought down by Baker inside the area.

However, the Irishman fluffed his lines from 12 yards as Joe Murphy saved the resulting penalty.

Mark Warburton's men were buoyed by the missed opportunity and soon turned the game on its head.

Clayton Donaldson poked past Murphy to restore parity, before Marcello Trotta fired the hosts ahead just three minutes later.

Wilson came close to providing another first-half twist, but the striker chipped narrowly over the bar shortly before the interval.
