Preview: Borussia Dortmund vs. Arminia Bielefeld - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Bundesliga clash between Borussia Dortmund and Arminia Bielefeld, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Borussia Dortmund take on Arminia Bielefeld in the Bundesliga on Saturday, with the visitors looking to record a surprise upset and move out of the relegation places.

BVB, meanwhile, can potentially leapfrog Bayer Leverkusen into fifth place in the table with a victory.

Indeed, after a tumultuous few weeks for Dortmund, the pressure has lifted slightly from Edin Terzic's shoulders after recent significant victories over Sevilla in the Champions League and Schalke 04 in last weekend's Revierderby.

BVB's struggling rivals simply could not live with the interplay and attacking threat they carried throughout the encounter, particularly after Jadon Sancho's calm finish had broken the deadlock after 42 minutes.

Three minutes later, the winger's in-swinging cross tempted teammate Erling Braut Haaland into an acrobatic scissor kick, with the Norway striker unsurprisingly making a clean connection, which left substitute goalkeeper Michael Langer with absolutely no chance as Dortmund doubled their lead moments before the half-time interval.

Raphael Guerreiro capped a fine team move before England duo Sancho and Jude Bellingham excellently combined in the build-up to yet another Haaland brace as Dortmund wrapped up a clinical 4-0 victory. Terzic will be hoping that his side can continue to build on their momentum ahead of the DFB-Pokal quarter-final against Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday.

After their superb 3-3 draw at Bayern Munich last Monday, Arminia crashed back down to Earth with a humbling 3-0 defeat at the hands of Wolfsburg at the weekend.

In fairness, there is no disgrace at all in losing to the Wolves at present, with Oliver Glasner's side now nine games unbeaten having kept seven consecutive clean sheets after their trip to Bielefeld.

Yannick Gerhardt continued his superb creative form, racing down the right flank before putting a peach of a ball across the box for Renato Steffen to break the deadlock after 29 minutes. However, having scored on his debut against Bayern, Michel Vlap should have made it two in two early in his Arminia career to level the proceedings, but scuffed his effort harmlessly wide.

Perhaps that missed opportunity re-focused Wolfsburg minds, with Stefan Ortega contributing to Uwe Neuhaus's side's downfall by palming Wout Weghorst's tame effort straight into the path of Steffen, who duly doubled his tally, before Maximilian Arnold wrapped up the three points with a powerful effort from distance.

Neuhaus will be hoping for a better performance at Dortmund, with their recent point gained at Bayern proof that they can compete with any side on their day.

Team News

Dortmund are likely to be without Manuel Akanji, Lukasz Piszczek, Axel Witsel, Thorgan Hazard and Marcel Schmelzer due to injury.

Emre Can deputised well in defence alongside Mats Hummels at Schalke so should continue there, with Terzic perhaps tempted to rest a few key players ahead of Tuesday's cup match against his confirmed successor Marco Rose's Gladbach.

Arminia, meanwhile, are set to travel to Dortmund without Jacob Laursen and Cebio Soukou, with knocks likely to keep both in the treatment room for a week or two.

Nathan de Medina replaced Laursen during the defeat to Wolfsburg, so the 23-year-old could receive the nod from Neuhaus to start at left-back.

Borussia Dortmund possible starting lineup:
Hitz; Meunier, Can, Hummels, Guerreiro; Delaney, Bellingham; Sancho, Brandt, Reyna; Haaland

Arminia Bielefeld possible starting lineup:
Ortega; Brunner, Pieper, Nilsson, De Medina; Doan, Kunze, Prietl, Voglsammer; Vlap; Klos

SM words green background

We say: Borussia Dortmund 3-1 Arminia Bielefeld

We expect Dortmund to be too strong for their opponents after picking up two morale-boosting victories in the past 10 days.

Arminia showed against Bayern that they can be dangerous on the break, though, so it would not be a surprise to see them score and make life difficult for the hosts.
