Conference Premier roundup: Barnet regain top spot

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday afternoon's action in the Conference Premier as Barnet regain first place with a 5-0 thrashing of Welling United.

Barnet have regained their one-point advantage over Bristol Rovers at the top of the Conference Premier table with a 5-0 victory over Welling United.

Striker John Akinde was among the goalscorers as the Bees easily saw off their opponents, who had Chris Bush sent off just before half time.

Grimsby Town have moved into third position with a 2-1 win over Eastleigh, after Macclesfield Town suffered a last-gasp defeat to struggling Nuneaton Town, with Onome Sodje putting through his own net.

Forest Green Rovers complete the top five despite their 1-0 defeat at Woking, who have moved to within seven points of a playoff spot.

Both Halifax Town and Gateshead missed out on the opportunity to make inroads up the table, with Halifax being held to a goalless draw at Altrincham and a Connor Essam goal proving enough for Dover Athletic to see off Gateshead.

At the bottom end of the standings, Dartford slipped 10 points away from safety by losing 2-0 at Southport, but Alfreton Town improved their chances of survival with a 1-1 draw at home to Chester FC.

Elsewhere, two goals from Ryan Bowman earned Torquay United a 2-1 victory over Kidderminster Harriers, while FA Trophy finalists Wrexham were held to a 1-1 draw by Lincoln City.
