Barcelona have reportedly touched base with the representatives of Flamengo midfielder Gerson over a potential summer move.
The 23-year-old struggled to make a name for himself in Europe during spells with Fiorentina and Roma, but he has established himself as a key player for Brazilian giants Flamengo.
Arsenal were thought to be keeping tabs on the midfielder last year, while their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur supposedly had a £16m bid knocked back by Flamengo.
Now, ESPN reports that Barcelona have made contact with Gerson's entourage, but talks are at a very early stage and there is nothing concrete from the Blaugrana yet.
The report adds that Barca would ultimately be willing to pay €25m (£21.6m) for his services, but his existing Flamengo deal - which expires in December 2023 - includes a buyout clause of €75m (£64.9m).
Gerson has amassed six goals and 10 assists in 95 appearances for Flamengo since arriving in 2019, winning two Brazilian Serie A crowns and the Copa Libertadores in that time.
