Josep Maria Bartomeu: 'Financial stability key'

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu says that the Spanish outfit's "great challenge" is to "make money to compete with the big European clubs".

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has hinted that his club could be forced to sell players in order to make the Spanish giants financially stable.

Both Lionel Messi and Neymar have been linked with moves away from Camp Nou this season, with reports claiming that the books need to be balanced at the Catalan club.

Bartomeu has said that his club "have to make money to compete" and that could be funded by the sale of key players, despite the team's current standing in world football.

"We have to make money to compete with the big European clubs. This is the great challenge for the club," Bartomeu told Sport. "Our goal in the next six years in office is getting the club to be sustainable. In football, it already is. We won the treble and did not lose money."

Barcelona will take on Argentine outfit River Plate in the Club World Cup final on Sunday.
