Atletico Madrid thrash Real Valladolid

Atletico Madrid cruise past a poor Real Valladolid side to record a 3-0 win.

Atletico Madrid have moved to the top of La Liga with a routine home win against Real Valladolid.

The home side got off to an unbelievable start with two goals in the opening four minutes.

Raul Garcia fired in from the edge of the box, and then Diego Costa lifted the ball over Diego Marino from 20 yards out to give the home side a commanding lead.

Valladolid struggled to get out of their own half, although Javi Guerra did advance to the box before being tackled by Toby Alderweireld.

Garcia then tried to find Costa, but ran into three defenders and was harried out of it. After that, Atleti were happy to protect their lead.

Marino denied Diego Godin, but the away side finally had an attempt on goal when Guerra volleyed wide from Fausto Rossi's pass.

The hosts continued to create plenty of chances and Mario Suarez hit the bar with a header. However, Godin then met a corner and guided his header to the bottom corner for 3-0.
