Valencia's Nicolas Otamendi set to miss Atletico Madrid trip

Scans reveal that Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi has suffered a grade two sprain to his left ankle.

Valencia are expected to be without key defender Nicolas Otamendi for Sunday's La Liga trip to fellow top-four rivals Atletico Madrid.

The Argentine suffered an ankle problem in Sunday's 2-0 win over Real Sociedad when he collided with his own teammate Enzo Perez in the first period.

Los Che boss Nuno admitted earlier this week that the centre-back had suffered an injury and tests later revealed that Otamendi had suffered a grade two sprain to his left ankle.

According to Inside Spanish Football, the 27-year-old's ankle is still swollen and he faces a fight to be fit for the trip to Madrid.

Valencia are just one point behind Atletico in the La Liga table.
