Steve Bruce: 'Gabriel Agbonlahor wants Aston Villa return'

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce says that club stalwart Gabriel Agbonlahor is keen to return to the first-team setup.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has revealed that Gabriel Agbonlahor has been put on a six-week training programme.

During the summer, Agbonlahor turned down the opportunity to leave Villa Park despite falling out of favour with previous boss Roberto Di Matteo.

However, after Bruce gave each of the first-team squad a "clean state" upon his arrival, he has said that the club stalwart is working hard to reclaim a place in the team.

Bruce is quoted by the Express & Star as saying: "Gabby has dipped in and out with us.

"He's on a programme at the moment and is now one week into six weeks. He is listening and he wants to succeed again."

Agbonlahor has not made an appearance for the club since the middle of March.
