Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that a reported £105m bid from Real Madrid for Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale is a "joke".

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has described Real Madrid's reported £105m bid for Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale as a "joke".

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti revealed today that talks between the two clubs over a possible transfer are ongoing.

With suggestions that the two parties are closing in on a £105m deal, Wenger believes that a fee of that magnitude would disregard the incoming Financial Fair Play rules, which aim to restrict spending.

"It's quite amazing that in the year where the Financial Fair Play comes in, the football world has gone completely crazy," BBC Sport quotes Wenger as saying.

"You wonder what kind of impact and effect it has on the football world. It looks like it has made everybody worse than before. It makes a joke of it."

Meanwhile, Wenger has admitted that Arsenal have not given up on signing Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.
