Stuart Broad took four wickets on day two of the second Test against New Zealand to leave the Black Caps on 192-6 at the close of play in Christchurch.

Broad took three of the opening four wickets while James Anderson also chipped in, as the hosts reached 36-5 before finally settling into their opening innings.

The flurry of dismissals came after Jonny Bairstow, who was resuming at the crease from day one, reached his fifth Test century for England as the visitors were bowled out for 307.

After New Zealand were stunned early into their innings, Colin de Grandhomme and BJ Watling produced a 142-run stand, but the former batsman was the victim of Broad's fourth wicket on the day.

Watling (77*) is eyeing up his seventh century on the third day, with the Black Caps 115 runs behind England.
