United States skier Mikaela Shiffrin has visualised herself picking up a medal ahead of the ladies' giant slalom run tomorrow.
The 18-year-old, who is competing at her first Winter Olympics, says that she will fight for top spot in the alpine skiing event.
"To everyone else it is my first Olympics," Shiffrin is quoted as saying by The Sport Review. "To me, it is my thousandth. I have been here before – in my head. Come race day, I am sure there are going to be things that go differently.
"The trick is to be able to see that, accept it and move forward. I have envisioned this moment for quite a while. Especially in the past few weeks. I have envisaged myself sitting here talking to you all and standing on top of the podium, or the third step of the podium.
"It takes a lot of courage to see yourself in any race, but at the Olympics, to be able to brush it away knowing you have been through every scenario in your head, to treat it as a brand new thing. You have to be able to come up on race day no matter the conditions and fight for that top spot."
The American competitor leads the slalom World Cup rankings.
